Typing python or python3.6 into the terminal seems to launch Python successfully (details below). I have tried re-installing and restarting post install. Both 2.7 and 3.6 have the same problem: Clicking on IDLE leads to the icon bouncing a couple of times in the dock, but not opening a shell. I am trying to install Python on a Max running OS 10.13.1 (so my son can use a 'Coding for Beginners' book).
